The purpose of physical therapy is to restore locomotor function to the human body through alleviating and correcting movement dysfunction. This comprehensive Physical Therapy Aide program will prepare you for the growing field of Physical Therapy. The Physical Therapy Aide is generally responsible for carrying out the non-technical duties of physical therapy, such as preparing treatment areas, ordering devices and supplies, and transporting patients working under the direction of the physical therapist. Physical therapy aides may work in a variety of settings including nursing homes, pediatric centers, hospitals, private practices, sports rehabilitation centers, adult day treatment programs for the physically and mentally challenged and in non-traditional settings where a physical therapist and occupational therapist and assistants are employed. Upon successful completion of this program, you will be eligible to compete for a physical therapy aide position in the growing healthcare field. Graduates will be prepared for employment as non-licensed workers, performing tasks under the supervision of professionals within a rehabilitation team and working closely with physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, chiropractors and occupational therapists.
